Baby-Safe Fabrics
Unlike plastic, vinyl and other waterproof fabrics, our performance liner is certified safe for babies. There are no phthalates, no lead, no triclosan, no Bisphenol A, and never, ever any PVC.
Parents today are right to be concerned about safety. Thousands of vinyl baby bibs manufactured in China were recalled last year. You can feel comfortable having your baby wear Baby Chaleco styles all day, because they are approved and recommended by the Washington Toxics Coalition, a Seattle-based non-profit that advocates for child product safety, among other things.
Made in the USA
The entire collection is made in the USA in a family-owned factory right near my Seattle-area office. I don't outsource overseas - not in any aspect of the production. This has lots of benefits - not the least of which is being a partner in the local economy.
Unfortunately, very little fabric is manufactured in the United States these days, so fabrics are imported. But whenever possible I source locally. For example, I buy ribbons from a company in Pennsylvania and piping trims from California.

Philosophy
My goal is to make practical, beautiful products that families will find genuinely useful. In all decisions I consider the impact on the environment and the community as I strive to achieve this goal. The global nature of the economy makes it difficult to source materials locally, but whenever possible I look for nearby vendors and producers.
I use local talent to help me with tasks I cannot do myself, so my design assistant, graphic artist, web developes, sample maker and seamstresses are all right here in the Seattle area. To me, being part of the community means more than just giving after-profit donations.
As a mom with kids myself, I know it’s tough for working families to balance it all, so I make a special effort to accommodate family appointments and personal commitments. This, while still delivering outstanding service to all Baby Chaleco customers.
When it comes to the planet I believe that the little things do add up, so as a rule I recycle everything I can, and use the absolute minimum amount of packaging. If you get a box or package from me, it won't be fancy and there's a good chance it 's been used once or twice before, and I think that's okay.
What does CHALECO mean and how do you pronounce it?
In Spanish, a chaleco is a little vest.
It's pronounced: chä/lê/cõ
(CHA) as in chopstick; (LE) as in letter; (CO) as in coat
